Stellum Black Rye Fibonacci Blend #1 is part of the company's new line of specialty blends. According to the press release, they “offer consumers more in terms of rarity, collectability, and insight into the inspiration behind the blends themselves. Blending in steps and with smaller batches allows the team to utilize barrels or even just parts of barrels that are particularly unique while still having a major influence on the character of the whiskey.” A fibonacci sequence is defined as a series of numbers, each the sum of the two previous numbers. For this blend, “six separate rye blends were combined in accordance with this sequence.”

This particular blend is full of spice right from the start through the last fleeting glimpses of the finish. The nose opens with a cornucopia of spices and a tad of baked fruit crumble which provides a nice supporting role. The palate and finish are full of spices, but also offer more dry and earthy notes that really help to drive home this rye’s proof. It’s a bold hot rye that embodies every single one of its proof points. It’s certainly a high cost of admission, but for those rye lovers who love a lot of spice with the slightest bit of sweet, the price is worth it.
